When the client bought this semi-detached villa in a desirable location near the beach and the boulevard of Scheveningen, the property was in an outdated condition. The house was completely stripped and rebuilt from its skeleton. A significant undertaking requiring close collaboration with a large construction team over a period of more than two years. Together with the architect we came up with a new layout for the house and worked out the interior and both gardens in detail. At the time of the renovation, the family was still living in Australia. Studio Wendy Mahieu not only took care of the design, but also arranged the relocation of the family and made sure that they could move into the house as soon as they arrived in The Netherlands.

The property has been transformed into a welcoming family home, featuring a spacious living kitchen on the ground floor with a modern, minimalist design and elegant copper accents. To accommodate this, the back of the house was extended. The garden room provides a connection between the house and the garden, offering the family a unique space for relaxation and enjoyment. We sought to provide them with a renewed outdoor experience reminiscent of their time in Australia. This cozy space was designed with the specific needs of the family in mind, allowing them to enjoy the garden throughout the year, even during the cold Dutch winter months. The residence features numerous notable bespoke furniture pieces, including an open-plan study and a large walk-in closet. The children’s rooms are equipped with voids under which additional storage space has been created.

To modernize the house, we designed a new staircase that was completely customized by the builder. Our objective was to create a statement piece with beautiful technical details. On the second floor, the master bathroom plays a prominent role. This serene space is a haven of natural light, featuring a harmonious blend of soft materials and distinctive design elements. We selected a bathtub with a subtle texture, and the faucets were custom-made for the client. Each parent was provided with their own washroom, connected by a striking yet understated block element.
