Commissioned on a major renovation project by developer Canopy Investments, Studio Wendy Mahieu was tasked with the interior design of three exclusive city villas in The Hague’s popular Zeehelden district. Nestled within a former domestic school these exquisite ‘hidden’ homes offer a peaceful sanctuary within walking distance of the city center.
The architects of Studioschaeffer provided a solid foundation for the design team of Studio Wendy Mahieu to build upon. We approached the design and construction of the three villas in a distinctive manner, ensuring that each home’s unique design and architecture were meticulously considered. We deliberately chose not to follow a classical layout, opting instead for open voids and interesting sightlines, while still creating spaces with an intimate atmosphere where the future residents can embrace luxury and comfort.
Due to the unique shape of each villa, our approach was to begin with the core of the property and work towards an ideal interior for each villa. To achieve the design we had envisioned for this project, some layout changes were necessary to maximize the potential of the spaces. Exclusive materials and soft shapes were curated to reflect a warm minimalist aesthetic. The overall design language speaks of understated elegance with an abundance of inviting spaces where every element was thoughtfully placed.
