Coach House

Archipel

Completed:
2020

Total space:
180m2

Category:
Spatial – interior design

This 19th-century former coach house has been converted into a modern townhouse with 180m2 of living space and an idyllic garden, beautifully located in The Hague’s Archipel neighborhood. We collaborated with developer Canopy Investments. and various partners to realize a uniquely tailored bespoke home developed to sell as a non-standard turn-key property. The brief was to create a high-end project for this market that had never been seen before and we were given complete creative freedom to achieve this.

The architect lowered the first floor, which increased the ceiling height and created high rooms. We sought to accentuate this height by incorporating floor-to-ceiling doors. The interior is the result of a continuous search for spatial design. We made the staircase the focal point of the house with a bespoke railing that was custom-made for the project and serves as a central eye-catcher. The ground floor is divided into three spaces that flow seamlessly into one another. The bespoke luxury living kitchen, combined with the full-width sliding doors, creates a strong interaction between inside and outside.

The dining room features a clever divider created by kitchen cabinets, as well as an open fireplace that connects the kitchen and sitting area through beautiful sight lines. It strikes a perfect balance between intimacy and openness, evoking a comfortable and inviting space with a loft-like feel. Drawing inspiration from Japanese aesthetics, the house was designed to create a serene atmosphere where clean lines take center stage. Pure materials, ceramics and wool play a central role in the design. The bespoke wooden doors lend it a unique feel with a color that was developed just for this project.

Every detail in the design was carefully considered. We incorporated an array of different textures, including a linen-like structure on the kitchen cabinets, a combination of Calacatta marble and soft ceramics, tiles with a velvet-like feel and ultra-thin cylinders that serve as downlights. The overall effect is one of elegance and sophistication.
